Italo Ottinetti and the passion for aluminum

In 1920, Italo Ottinetti, born in 1898 and a veteran of the First World War, founded with several associates, in Baveno—a charming village on the shores of Lake Maggiore, now in the province of Verbania—the metalworking company that still bears his name.

In the small factory, aluminum was processed through a complete production cycle: the ingot was melted to obtain a sheet, which was then rolled to form a disk. The disk was subsequently stamped or spun to create the finished product.

This was essentially artisanal production of high-quality articles, which Italo Ottinetti personally sold while traveling throughout Italy, as far as Sicily. At that time, the range included cutlery, cookware and accessories for families, as shown by the 1925 catalogue, the year in which Italo Ottinetti became the company's sole owner.

The business prospered and the factory expanded until it employed more than 50 people before the Second World War. The workforce subsequently decreased with the mechanization of a large part of the production process during the years of the economic boom.
