Italo Ottinetti and a passion for aluminum

In 1920, Italo Ottinetti, born in 1898 and a former World War I soldier, founded with several partners in Baveno—an attractive village on the shores of Lake Maggiore, now in the province of Verbania—the metalworking company that still bears his name.

At the small factory, aluminum was processed through a complete production cycle: the ingot was melted to produce a sheet, which was then rolled to form a disc. The disc was subsequently stamped or spun to create the finished product.

This was primarily an artisanal production of high-quality items, which Italo Ottinetti personally sold throughout Italy, as far as Sicily. At the time, the range included cutlery, cookware, and accessories for families, as shown in the 1925 catalog, the year in which Italo Ottinetti became the company's sole owner.

The business prospered, and the factory expanded until it employed more than 50 people before World War II. This workforce later declined as much of the production process was mechanized during the years of the economic boom.
