Italo Ottinetti and the passion for aluminum

In 1920, Italo Ottinetti, born in 1898 and a veteran of the First World War, founded with several partners in Baveno — a charming village on the shores of Lake Maggiore, now in the province of Verbania — the metalworking company that still bears his name.

In the small factory, aluminum was processed through a complete production cycle: the ingot was melted to obtain a sheet, which was then rolled to form a disk. The disk was subsequently stamped or spun to create the finished product.

This was essentially handcrafted production of high-quality articles, which Italo Ottinetti sold personally while traveling throughout Italy, as far as Sicily. At that time, the range included cutlery, cookware, and accessories for families, as shown by the 1925 catalog, the year in which Italo Ottinetti became the company’s sole owner.

The business prospered, and the factory expanded to employ more than 50 people before the Second World War. Its workforce subsequently declined as much of the production process was mechanized during the years of the economic boom.
