Italo Ottinetti and a passion for aluminum

In 1920, Italo Ottinetti, born in 1898 and a former World War I soldier, founded, together with several partners, the metalworking company that still bears his name in Baveno—a charming village on the shores of Lake Maggiore, now in the province of Verbania.

In the small factory, aluminum was processed through a complete production cycle: the ingot was melted to obtain a sheet, which was then rolled to form a disc. The disc was subsequently stamped or spun to create the finished product.

This was essentially artisanal production of high-quality articles, which Italo Ottinetti personally sold while traveling throughout Italy, as far as Sicily. At that time, the range included cutlery, cookware, and accessories for families, as shown by the 1925 catalog, the year in which Italo Ottinetti became the company’s sole owner.

The business flourished and the factory expanded, employing more than 50 people before World War II. This workforce later declined as much of the production process was mechanized during the years of the economic boom.
