Italo Ottinetti and a passion for aluminum

In 1920, Italo Ottinetti, born in 1898 and a former First World War serviceman, founded the metalworking company that still bears his name with several partners in Baveno—a charming village on the shores of Lake Maggiore, now in the province of Verbania.

In the small factory, aluminum was processed through a complete production cycle: the ingot was melted to obtain a sheet, which was then rolled to form a disk. The disk was subsequently stamped or spun to create the finished product.

This was essentially artisanal production of high-quality items, which Italo Ottinetti personally sold throughout Italy, as far as Sicily. At that time, the range included cutlery, cookware, and accessories for families, as evidenced by the 1925 catalog, the year in which Italo Ottinetti became the sole owner of the company.

The business flourished and the factory expanded until it employed more than 50 people before the Second World War. This workforce later declined as much of the production process was mechanized during the years of the economic boom.
