ORANESSENCE - Ground Galangal 40g

Description

Like ginger, galangal is a rhizome native to Asia. It has a flavor close to ginger, but with a more subtle spiciness and a sweet scent of Ceylon cinnamon.

In Europe, it remains little known. It is mainly used in Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, especially to enhance traditional soups.

Fresh galangal is not easy to find; the roots are usually dried. We prefer to use it in powder form for its fineness and ease of use. In cooking, it is often paired with lemongrass, coriander, garlic, and chili. These are the essential spices to give your dishes a Thai flavor.

Of course, galangal is part of several of our blends made in our workshop in Normandy, including: our green curry and our Thai red curry.

Your grocer’s tip:

You can use galangal instead of ginger in many dishes. Since it is less spicy, you can be a bit more generous. A dosage of 3 teaspoons in a family-sized dish seems appropriate for a first experience.

PAIRING:

Essential in Thai soups, galangal also flavors sautéed vegetables, prawns, scallops, chicken, and beef. In traditional dishes, it is often paired with coconut milk. It can also be used in marinades (meats, shrimp...) and can replace ginger in baking.
