What is the Trinacria?

The Trinacria is the historic symbol of Sicily. It represents a winged head with three legs, with a Gorgon face at its center. The three legs symbolize the three capes of the island – Peloro, Passero, and Lilibeo – and evoke its triangular shape. At the center is the head of Medusa, surrounded by ears of wheat, symbols of fertility and prosperity. This symbol, of Greek origin, is still used today as the coat of arms of Sicily.
