Our organic star anise (Chinese star anise) is a spice with a more powerful aroma than the green anise which is used in the composition of the Chinese five spice powder mixture. It is used in many spice blends including ras-el-Hanout or garam masala. A magnificent product picked and sorted by hand.
The badian tree is the name of the tree on which its fruit grows. star anise or more commonly called thestar anise. Composed of eight carpels (fruit petals) each containing a magnificent seed shiny like a porcelain pearl, star anise forms an eight-pointed star.
The fruits are picked while still green then drying in the sun gives them this brown brick red color.
